Long shelf life
The MREs are able to last the same shelf life as canned products, typical MREs can last 3 years under normal storage conditions without refrigeration.
Flexible, compact, easy to store and transport
MRE’s are more compact than canned products as the pouches are flexible in nature. This characteristic makes MRE’s easy to store and ship. The Soldier can put MRE’s into the pockets of their uniform and eat on the go. They can also be dropped without denting.
No need for can openers
MRE’s do not require can openers and can be opened by tearing on the notches of the pouch. This led to less injuries and blood contamination. Disposal of MRE’s are also easier than opened cans with sharp edges.
Easy to reheat
MRE’s can be easily reheat by contact with hot surfaces, or submerging in hot water. Several MRE pouches can be reheated in one shot by submerging into hot water. If hot water is not present . the MRE pouches can be reheated by exposures to hot surfaces such as the engine bay, strong sun light etc.
